June 20, 2025, Pasay City — In observance of National Refugee Day today, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) led a medical and humanitarian mission for asylum seekers temporarily staying at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Proclaimed under Presidential Proclamation No. 265, s. 2023, National Refugee Day is celebrated annually to recognize and strengthen the Philippines’ longstanding humanitarian tradition and its commitment to the protection and dignity of refugees.
To mark the occasion, MIAA, through its Medical Division, conducted a medical outreach mission on June 17 and 20, 2025. The initiative provided essential health services—including physical examinations, ECG screenings, and blood sugar tests—to 17 asylum seekers from Burundi and Pakistan.
This effort formed part of MIAA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and responded to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call to extend support to vulnerable populations affected by global crises. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) joined the initiative by distributing food packs and hygiene kits to address the group’s basic needs.
“MIAA was proud to take part in the national observance of Refugee Day by extending concrete assistance to those who have sought refuge in our country,” said MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines. “This commemoration reaffirmed our responsibility to act with compassion and solidarity.”
The event underscored the united effort of government agencies to protect the health, dignity, and welfare of displaced persons—and to uphold the Philippines’ enduring commitment to humanitarian action.
